About the exhibitor

Founded in Naples, Italy, in 1888, Tessitore1888 began focusing exclusively on the handmade production of Tubogas jewellery in 1935.

Today, the company remains under the leadership of the Tessitore family and is recognised for its expertise in this distinctive jewellery-making tradition.

The origins of Tubogas and gaspipe-style bangles can be traced back to ancient Roman times, when two gold strands were intertwined using a distinctive technique. This type of construction became known as the snake chain, owing to its length, flexibility and snake-like appearance. Its supple structure allowed the jewellery to adapt comfortably to the contours of the arm.

The first Tubogas jewels resembling those we know today emerged in Italy and France during the 19th century. However, the style achieved worldwide recognition in the 1970s, when Bulgari, the renowned Italian luxury jewellery house founded in Rome in 1884, helped popularise it internationally.

Throughout the centuries, this traditional craft has continued to evolve, remaining an enduring part of Italian jewellery-making heritage.

Today, Tubogas jewellery is a staple in fine jewellery boutiques around the world. Although numerous manufacturers, particularly in Italy's jewellery districts of Arezzo and Vicenza, produce Tubogas pieces, much of today's production relies on industrial processes.

Tessitore1888, however, remains faithful to the traditional handmade method. In its historic home of Naples, the company continues to create Tubogas jewellery using techniques passed down through generations and the exceptional skills of a small number of highly specialised artisans. Their expertise gives each piece its distinctive character and quality, preserving a level of craftsmanship that is difficult to replicate through industrial production.

Tessitore1888's mission is to keep this extraordinary tradition alive, safeguarding its heritage and passing its unique know-how on to future generations.
